Rising input costs put pressure on margins and profitability, the company said.

Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation Ltd. (SPIC), one of India’s pioneering agri-nutrient and fertilizer companies, on Thursday reported consolidated net profit of ₹47 crore for the quarter ended September 2026 (Q2FY27), down 23 per cent compared to ₹61 crore in the same quarter last year.

Consolidated revenue from operations grew 22 per cent to ₹999 crore. Rising input costs put pressure on margins and profitability, the company said.

For H1FY27, consolidated revenue increased 16 per cent at Rs 1848 crore and net profit dipped 16 per cent to Rs 107 crore.

Ashwin Muthiah, Chairman – SPIC, said that the global economic environment remains volatile, impacting commodity prices, supply chains and input costs. “We will continue our focus on operational efficiency and cost optimization,” he said. “We are also working closely with the government to ensure the timely availability of fertilizers to farmers.” he added.

Offering an overview of the fertilizer sector, SPIC said that India’s 2026 southwest monsoon ended with a rainfall deficit of 12.6%, the weakest in over a decade and the fourth-lowest since 2001, and the shortfall, attributed to an active El Niño pattern , added to the challenges facing the fertiliser industry. “However, advance procurement and supply planning helped maintain availability, with fertiliser inventories reaching a two-year high ahead of the rabi season,” SPIC said in a statement.

While fertilizer sales dipped, on the supply side, domestic urea production increased by 4.0% during the period, supported by efforts to secure feedstock and maintain supplies.

During the quarter, the production and sale of Urea of the company were 1.89 lac MT and 1.96 lac MT respectively. During the quarter, the Urea plant was in operation for 91 days compared to 92 days in the previous year.
